RISE will run a free driving program for refugees to assist them to obtain driving permits. The driving lessons will be conducted by professional instructors, who will teach important skills for safe driving and minimizing risk.

The RISE driving project will be run and facilitated by a diverse refugee community volunteers. The project will identity and address the needs and concerns of the local community regarding road safety, including raising driver awareness about drink driving and education about existing road laws. It is in the public interest to have safe competent drivers on our roads, as much as it is important for the individual to have increased mobility.

RISE aims to strengthen the capabilities of refugee volunteers through various leadership roles in the driving program. The RISE model has been organised in way that not only encourages refugee participation in the driving program, but also serves to empower individuals to take ownership over important aspects over their lives. The uniqueness and practicality of the RISE driving model will serve as an example for other driving schools who wish to achieve similar objectives.

RISE will adopt methods of transparency and accountability throughout the program with the intentions of sharing information and advice so other driver programs can improve their services. The aim is to assist the communities to become safe road drivers and to have better understand of Australian road rules. This will be an educational and practical project conducted by refugees and RACV will be running workshops for “L” and “P” plates learners.
